Motorola--The Real Disruptor

Motorola--The Real Disruptor: "So after you become one of the biggest builders of cellular networks and the leading supplier of hardware and handsets in the world what do you do? You go out and disrupt the literal crap out of your customers. That's what this post from Thomas Anglero at Telecom Tsunami has rightfully pointed out. There is a lot going on that will transform the way people communicate. Skype was only the beginning, and with SIP becoming the standard, and VoIP becoming more of reality due to broadband proliferation, imaginative ideas like this one will continue to come to the surface in bigger and bolder ways. There is clearly going to be a demand for VoIP to Mobile and Mobile To VoIP calling, where the call is all IP from end to end, not handed off by telephony gateways at the carrier end. The rational is simple. In the long run it will be cheaper, but not until the mobile operators have achieved Y return on CapEx expenditures done over a series of years. Thomas goes farther in this post to the exact point about why the mobile operators want to resist pure IP...but we all know that resistance is futile, don't we?"
